Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky is seeking additional US weapons and aid for his country during a meeting with President Joe Biden. This plea for aid comes as Russia launched a major attack on Kyiv, firing eight long-range ballistic missiles. The attack resulted in four people being injured by shattered glass and emphasizes the need for increased support for Ukraine’s defense.
According to a representative of the White House, the United States of America is likely to announce a new military aid package for Ukraine by the end of December. This was stated by the coordinator of the US National Security Council at the White House, John Kirby, during a briefing. The US leader Joe Biden has called on Congress to approve a request that includes over $60 billion in funding for assistance to Ukraine.
President Volodymyr Zelensky began a working visit to the United States of America on December 11. During his visit, he called on the US to provide more assistance to Ukraine in countering Russian aggression and invited former US President Donald Trump to visit Ukraine to see the scale of the conflict with his own eyes.
The US House of Representatives, where Republicans hold the majority, voted the day before to allocate aid only to Israel. The White House stated that the President would veto this bill, and the Senate stated that it would not support this initiative without including aid to Ukraine.
The Biden Administration is willing to compromise on strengthening border crossing rules for migrants in order to provide new assistance to Ukraine and Israel. The US is intensifying cooperation with American lawmakers who are trying to reach a bipartisan agreement that would provide military assistance to Ukraine and Israel while simultaneously strengthening the security of US borders.
Ukraine is considering changes to its military strategy in order to advance faster and unexpectedly strike at Russia. President Zelensky emphasized that the US will have to send its soldiers to war in Europe if Washington does not strengthen its support for Ukraine.
