In a decisive move to safeguard its national security and airspace, Poland has deployed fighter jets following an unprecedented wave of Russian aerial attacks on western Ukraine. The Polish Operational Command confirmed the activation of both Polish and allied aircraft to counteract the aggressive maneuvers by Russia, underscoring the escalating tensions in Eastern Europe. These latest strikes were part of Russia’s largest overnight assault since the outbreak of the conflict, involving 479 drones and 20 missiles, targeting regions far beyond the immediate battle zones, including the area of Rivne, as disclosed by Mayor Oleksandr Tretyak. The severity of these attacks has drawn international attention and prompted a swift military response from Poland. Adding to the complexity of the situation, Mark Rutte, on behalf of NATO, has emphasized the urgent need to bolster the alliance’s defenses in light of Russia’s expanding military capabilities. During a recent statement, Rutte pointed out Russia’s accelerated production of ammunition, which is now occurring at a rate three times that of all NATO countries combined. With an anticipated increase in military hardware production within the year, he urged NATO members to commit to higher defense spending, suggesting a target of over 3% of GDP. Furthermore, Rutte announced that the NATO Summit 2025 is scheduled to take place at the World Forum in The Hague from June 24 to 26, 2025, likely to address these and other security concerns. In parallel developments, Russia has intensified its military aggression with massive drone and ballistic attacks on Kyiv and Odesa, marking a significant escalation in the conflict. According to information obtained by LIGA.net, the Security Service of Ukraine is currently investigating almost 139,000 war crimes committed by Russian forces, with 96,000 criminal proceedings already initiated. This alarming figure highlights the extensive human and territorial impact of Russia’s military campaign against Ukraine. As the situation unfolds, the international community watches closely, with many advocating for increased support to Ukraine and a stronger stance against Russian aggression.
