In a significant move aimed at enhancing flight safety and passenger compliance, the Civil Aviation General Directorate (SHGM) has introduced a new set of rules that will see passengers facing fines for prematurely unfastening their seatbelts and standing up before the aircraft has come to a complete stop. This decision, detailed in the newly issued ‘Passenger Announcements Circular,’ targets behaviors that have long been a concern for both flight safety and the orderly disembarkation of passengers. The move comes in response to a growing number of incidents where passengers, eager to disembark, disregard the illuminated seatbelt signs to gather their belongings from overhead bins or to queue in the aisle, thus risking not only their safety but also that of their fellow travelers. The directive specifies that such actions will categorize individuals as ‘Passengers Behaving Against the Rules,’ subjecting them to administrative fines. This enforcement is part of broader efforts to ensure that the established safety protocols are adhered to, minimizing potential hazards that can occur from premature movement within the cabin. Kemal Yüksek, the General Director, emphasized the increase in complaints regarding these issues, highlighting the importance of addressing actions that compromise the well-being and satisfaction of passengers. With cabin crew instructed to report non-compliant passengers to authorities for the application of fines, the SHGM aims to foster a safer and more respectful flying environment. This initiative underscores the critical nature of flight safety measures and the collective responsibility of passengers and crew to uphold these standards, ensuring a secure and pleasant travel experience for all.
