A British-South African woman, Karen Carter, was found dead with stab wounds near her car in the village of Trémolat, France. The shocking incident took place on Tuesday, April 29, and has left the community in disbelief. Karen’s husband, who is currently in South Africa, expressed his shock and described her as a ‘decent, lovely person’. The investigation has taken a significant turn with the arrest of a 69-year-old local woman who is connected to the couple. This is the second person to be placed in custody in connection with the murder. The victim’s new partner, who had discovered her unconscious in front of their home, was questioned but later released as his account was deemed plausible. The relationship between the victim and the second person in custody is yet to be determined. The Bergerac prosecutor’s office has opened a murder investigation against an unknown perpetrator and is considering all possibilities. The victim’s husband, with whom she was in the process of divorcing, was abroad at the time of the crime. Karen Carter had been living in Trémolat for over a decade and was known for running two holiday rental homes. She was actively involved in the community and regularly visited South Africa, where she had previously lived.
