The recent military clash between India and Pakistan has prompted the United States to call for de-escalation and peaceful resolution of differences. The White House has urged both countries to refrain from further military action and engage in dialogue. If necessary, the US has offered to mediate between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. This development comes as the international community expresses concern over the potential for further conflict.

In response to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, the United States has taken significant steps to support India’s firm stance against terrorism. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has held separate discussions with Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar and Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. Rubio expressed condolences for the victims of the horrific attack and encouraged Pakistan to cooperate with India to reduce tension and maintain peace in South Asia.

During the conversation with Shahbaz Sharif, Rubio also emphasized the importance of Pakistan working with India to ensure peace and security in the region. However, Pakistan has urged the United States to exert pressure on India to avoid provocative statements and raised concerns about the Indus Water Treaty. Pakistan claimed that the water received under the treaty is crucial for the livelihood of 240 million people and highlighted that there is no provision for unilateral withdrawal.

Meanwhile, amidst tensions with Pakistan, the Indian Navy has conducted a major firing exercise in Pahalgam. This move comes as a warning amidst the ongoing conflict. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh has accused the Modi government of diverting attention from the Pahalgam terrorist attack by announcing the caste census in the upcoming population census. Singh expressed support for the caste census but questioned the government’s intention and raised concerns about the lack of budget allocation and timeframe for its implementation.

Singh emphasized that the focus should be on reclaiming Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and eliminating terrorists, rather than diverting attention. He highlighted the importance of knowing the caste demographics to allocate government scheme benefits accordingly. The government’s decision on the caste census has raised doubts about its commitment to implementing important initiatives, similar to the Women’s Reservation Bill.

As tensions persist between India and Pakistan, the international community is closely monitoring the situation. The United States’ call for de-escalation and mediation reflects the growing concern over the potential for further conflict between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. It remains to be seen how India and Pakistan will respond to these developments and whether dialogue and peaceful resolution can be achieved.
