The presidents of China and Russia, Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin, have called on their allies to resist external influence, highlighting the changing global centers of power and the emergence of a multipolar world. This call was made at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, which Moscow and Beijing see as a counterweight to US ‘hegemony.’ The SCO, representing 40% of the global population and 30% of its GDP, noted ‘tectonic shifts in global politics’ in a joint declaration, and called for an enhanced role in global and regional security.

In related news, the official visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Russia is scheduled to take place on July 8-9, as confirmed by the Kremlin press service. This visit holds paramount importance in Moscow, being one of Modi’s first trips after the elections. The talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin will focus on the prospects for further development of traditionally friendly Russian-Indian relations, as well as current international and regional issues. Discussions are planned on regional and global security issues, trade, and economic cooperation.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs stated that the leaders will discuss the multifaceted relations between the two countries and exchange views on contemporary regional and global issues of common interest. Following his visit to Russia, Modi will visit Austria on July 9-10, marking his first trip to the country in 41 years. There, he will meet with authorities and representatives of the business community.

The West has been speaking of Putin’s ‘diplomatic victory’ as the Indian Prime Minister arrives in Moscow, with the information-analytical portal ‘HIBINY.RU’ noting that ‘Russia did not become an outcast.’ The visit is seen as a significant event, and discussions are expected to cover regional and global security issues, as well as trade and economic cooperation. The trusting nature of the relationship between Putin and Modi suggests that there will be an exchange of views on all the issues on the agenda. This visit further solidifies the well-established mechanism for organizing summits between India and Russia, with 21 summits of this format already having taken place.
