In a significant development, the UN Security Council has passed a resolution urging Hamas to accept a ceasefire proposal, highlighting international efforts to de-escalate the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. The resolution, sponsored by the US, received 14 votes in favor, with Russia being the only country to abstain. According to the US, Israel has already agreed to the ceasefire deal.
Amidst this backdrop, the Chairman of the Jewish Agency, General (Res.) Doron Almog, has called for an end to the war and the safe return of captives. Speaking at the ‘Southern Conference for Business’ of Globes, Almog emphasized the importance of reaching an agreement with Saudi Arabia, as it weakens Iran and Hamas. He also highlighted the need for an interim agreement in Lebanon, acknowledging that there is no ‘absolute victory’ in this conflict.
Almog shared his personal concern for his family members who were held captive by Hamas in Gaza due to his leadership in military operations. He expressed relief that they were not harmed and stressed the urgency of bringing them back safely.
Discussing the rise of anti-Semitism worldwide, Almog expressed his deep concern and called for an agreement with Saudi Arabia to help alleviate the current storm. He warned that if anti-Semitism prevails in the United States, it could have long-term consequences, potentially leading to a future president who opposes Israel.
Meanwhile, the CEO of the Jewish Agency, Amira Aharonovich, highlighted the agency’s role in assisting families affected by terrorism. She revealed that since October 7th, the agency has provided support to over 8,000 families defined as victims of terrorism. Aharonovich emphasized the need for continued immigration and connectivity between Jewish communities worldwide and Israel, especially in times of emergency.
Aharonovich also discussed the growing anti-Semitism and its impact on Jewish communities. She expressed concern about the anxiety it generates and the need to ensure security and resilience in every Jewish community. The agency has been actively providing support to community institutions, including financial assistance for security measures.
In light of the recent wave of anti-Semitism, the agency has deployed 500 emissaries worldwide, including 100 on campuses, to counter the toxic atmosphere on social networks and campuses. These emissaries have been posting educational content and personal stories to flood the alternative narrative of Israel, reaching millions of people.
As the conflict between Israel and Hamas continues, international efforts to de-escalate the situation are gaining momentum. The UN Security Council’s resolution and the voices of leaders like Doron Almog and Amira Aharonovich highlight the urgent need for a ceasefire and the importance of supporting affected families and Jewish communities worldwide.
