Russian attempts to gain control of the town of Vovchansk in Ukraine have been foiled, according to Ukraine’s General Staff. Geolocated footage suggests that Russian forces have only advanced about 8km from the border. Nato’s top military officer, General Christopher Cavoli, stated that Russia does not have the numbers, skills, or capabilities to make any major gains in Ukraine at the moment. Overall, the situation in Ukraine is said to be “generally under control.” In the past 24 hours, Ukrainian forces repelled 14 enemy attacks on the Kupyansk direction. The head of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration, Oleh Syniuhubov, reported that Russia continues daily attacks on Kharkiv and the region. As a result of the shelling on May 1, 14 residential buildings in the regional center were damaged. About 17 settlements in Kharkiv region, including Synkivka, Stepova Novoselivka, Kotliarivka, and others, were subjected to artillery and mortar strikes by the enemy. Aerial bombardments affected the settlements of Vesele, Kharkiv, Vovchansk, Synkivka, Petropavlivka, and Podoli. The shelling resulted in casualties, including injuries and deaths. Ukrainian forces successfully defended against the attacks in the Kupyansk direction, particularly in the areas of Petropavlivka, Ivanivka, Kyslivka, Kotliarivka, Berestove, and Kopanky in the Kharkiv region. The United States plans to sign a 10-year security agreement with Ukraine aimed at supporting Ukrainian defense and strengthening the military-industrial complex, as announced by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. According to American analysts, Russian occupiers are exerting pressure on Donetsk.
