Mount Ruang, a remote volcano in Indonesia, has erupted three times, causing the closure of several airports and spreading ash as far as Malaysia. The eruption has also raised concerns about a possible tsunami, leading to the evacuation of 12,000 people. To ensure their safety, a rescue ship and a warship have been sent to transport residents from Tagulandang island to Siau island. The volcano’s activity has disrupted air travel and prompted authorities to take swift action to protect the affected communities.

According to a report from Databoks.id, Mount Ruang erupted again on Tuesday (30/4/2024) at 02:35 WITA, making it the third eruption in a week. The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) has classified the volcano’s activity level as Level III (Alert). Seismic observations have detected avalanche earthquakes and shallow and deep volcanic earthquakes. PVMBG has urged residents and tourists to remain cautious and avoid entering the 4-kilometer radius from the active crater of Mount Ruang.

In a separate article from Metro TV News, it is highlighted that Mount Ruang is not the only volcano in Indonesia experiencing eruptions. Other volcanoes, including Mount Dukono in Halmahera, Mount Semeru in East Java, and Mount Marapi in West Sumatra, have also erupted. This is due to Indonesia’s geographical location in the Pacific Ring of Fire, where three tectonic plates meet. Indonesia is known to have 127 active volcanoes and is prone to geological disasters. However, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) states that there is no causal relationship between the eruption of Mount Ruang and the series of eruptions in other volcanoes.

The frequent volcanic activities in Indonesia have led to the continuous monitoring of 68 volcanoes by the government. Despite the lack of direct connection between the eruptions, the eruption of Mount Ruang has prompted authorities to take precautionary measures, including the evacuation of thousands of residents and the closure of airports. The safety and well-being of the affected communities remain a top priority as the situation continues to be monitored.
