Israel has announced that it will suspend its plans for a new attack on Gaza if an agreement on hostages is reached with Hamas. This comes as America’s top diplomat is heading back to the Middle East to restart ceasefire negotiations between the two parties. The move is seen as a potential breakthrough in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.

According to a report from ynet ידיעות אחרונות, a ceasefire went into effect at 07:00, during which the IDF will refrain from attacks to allow Hamas to collect the hostages and hand them over to the Red Cross and the Red Crescent. The first installment of the hostage release is expected to include 13 individuals – women and children. They will be released at one of the two crossings, Rafah or Erez, and will be received by IDF representatives.

The release of the hostages will be followed by a medical examination to assess their condition. If urgent medical treatment is required, they will be transported to Soroka Hospital; otherwise, they will be taken to one of the designated medical centers. The released individuals will have the opportunity to speak with their families in Israel and later meet with them at the hospital.

After the completion of the hostage reception process, 39 Palestinian prisoners – minors and women – will be released to their respective areas. The number of prisoners released will be based on a ratio of three prisoners for each released hostage from captivity in Gaza.

Despite the ceasefire, there have been reports of tactical violations, including a red alert siren in Kfar Aza and attacks in various areas of the Gaza Strip. However, it is believed that these violations do not undermine the agreement between Israel and Hamas. A security source warned that if Hamas violates the ceasefire, its militants will face disproportionate fire.

In a separate report from וואלה! חדשות, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant visited the Palmachim base and expressed confidence in the Israeli forces. He acknowledged the heavy costs of the war but emphasized the determination to continue and win. Gallant praised the fighters for their resilience and stated that victory would not come easily or quickly, but it was achievable.

The announcement of the suspension of the attack on Gaza in exchange for a hostage agreement is seen as a potential breakthrough in the ongoing conflict. With America’s top diplomat returning to the Middle East to restart ceasefire negotiations, there is hope for a resolution to the tensions between Israel and Hamas.
