The US House of Representatives has approved over $61 billion in military assistance to Ukraine to help in its fight against Russia. The bill is now set to be considered by the Senate and is expected to pass next week, allowing President Joe Biden to sign it into law. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy expressed gratitude to both Democrats and Republicans for their support, stating that the aid would prevent the war from expanding and save lives. Meanwhile, Russia has threatened retaliation over measures in the aid bill that would confiscate seized Russian assets and transfer them to Ukraine for reconstruction.

According to a report from BBC.com, after over six months of blocking military and financial aid to Ukraine, the US House of Representatives has finally approved a much-needed legislative package for Kyiv, totaling over $60 billion. The vote resulted in 311 in favor and 112 against, surpassing the required 218 votes. The bill still requires approval from the Senate, but with the Democrats holding the majority, it is expected to pass quickly. If all procedures go smoothly, Ukraine could receive the first batches of aid as early as May.

The aid package for Ukraine in the US was initially blocked in early October 2023. However, by spring, it became clear that without American money and weapons, Kyiv found itself in a critical situation. The approved bill provides $60.8 billion in aid to Ukraine, with the majority allocated to the US military-industrial complex. Defense spending amounts to $49.9 billion, while economic aid to Ukraine is allocated $9.5 billion. The bill also includes a requirement for the president to provide long-range ATACMS missiles to Ukraine.

An article from АрміяInform reports that the House of Representatives of the US Congress has passed a bill on aid to Ukraine, amounting to $60.84 billion. The bill includes $23.2 billion for replenishing American arms, supplies, and facilities, $11.3 billion for ongoing US military operations in the region, and $13.8 billion for the purchase of advanced weapon systems, defense goods, and defense services. Additionally, Ukraine will receive a $7.85 billion credit as direct financial assistance to the state budget. The bill also obligates the US President to transfer long-range ATACMS missiles to Ukraine. Furthermore, the bill allows for the use of frozen Russian assets for Ukraine.

The approval of this aid package is seen as a significant step in supporting Ukraine’s fight against Russian aggression. President Zelenskiy expressed his gratitude to both Democrats and Republicans for their support, stating that the aid would prevent the war from expanding and save lives. However, Russia has threatened retaliation over measures in the aid bill that would confiscate seized Russian assets and transfer them to Ukraine for reconstruction. The bill will now be considered by the Senate and is expected to pass next week, allowing President Biden to sign it into law.
