The Israeli army has announced the successful dismantling of Hamas’s command structure in northern Gaza. According to the IDF, Hamas fighters in the area are now operating sporadically and without commanders. The IDF claims to have killed around 8,000 Hamas fighters in northern Gaza, although this figure has not been independently verified. The focus of the IDF now shifts to dismantling Hamas in south and central Gaza and strengthening defenses along the Israel-Gaza border.

In response to the increasing threats posed by terrorist organizations and criminal networks attempting to infiltrate the country, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have initiated a large-scale operation to secure the country’s border. Codenamed “Shield of Protection,” the operation aims to prevent illegal border crossings and combat smuggling activities. The IDF has deployed a significant number of troops, along with advanced surveillance technology, to monitor and safeguard the border.

The IDF spokesperson emphasized that the operation is not only crucial for maintaining national security but also for protecting the well-being of Israeli citizens. The IDF remains committed to ensuring the safety and sovereignty of the nation. The operation involves close coordination with other security agencies, including the Israeli Border Police and intelligence units. Joint efforts are being made to gather intelligence, identify potential threats, and take preemptive action to neutralize them.

Furthermore, the IDF has called upon the international community to support their efforts in securing the border. They stress the importance of international cooperation in combating terrorism and maintaining regional stability. The “Shield of Protection” operation is expected to continue until the border is fully secured. The IDF remains vigilant and prepared to respond to any potential threats, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation.

In response to statements made by Finance Minister Zalman Shoval and Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir regarding the Gaza Strip border crossing, US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller criticized the statements and referred to them as “irresponsible.” Miller emphasized that the US has been clear when stating that the Strip is Palestinian territory “and will remain Palestinian territory, as Hamas is no longer responsible for its future and there is no threat to Israel from terrorist groups there.”

Ben-Gvir stated that the Gaza Strip border crossing is “a correct, just, moral, and humane solution” and that it must be promoted. He added that encouraging the emigration of Palestinians from the Strip “will allow us to bring home the residents of the envelope and the residents of Gush Katif.” Shoval stated that Israel must control the territory of the Strip and significantly reduce the number of Palestinian residents there.

The dismantling of Hamas’s command structure in northern Gaza, along with the IDF’s “Shield of Protection” operation, demonstrate the Israeli government’s commitment to national security and the safety of its citizens. The US State Department’s criticism of statements made by Israeli officials regarding the Gaza Strip border crossing further highlights the importance of international cooperation in combating terrorism and maintaining regional stability.
