On Christmas Eve, a suspected gunman was stabbed to death after opening fire at a Dublin steakhouse. The family of Tristan Sherry, the deceased gunman, has launched a GoFundMe page to cover his funeral costs. According to reports, Sherry is believed to have shot a man in the neck before being overpowered and receiving up to 30 stab wounds. A video has emerged showing Sherry lying on the street covered in blood and being beaten with a restaurant chair.
Minister for Justice Helen McEntee has condemned the gun attack, saying that “this viciousness has resulted in unimaginable human suffering this Christmas. That anyone could perpetrate such violence as families gathered together is especially disgusting.” Taoiseach Leo Varadkar also expressed his shock upon hearing about the shooting at “a well-known family restaurant I’ve visited many times.”
Police in Dublin have intensified their uniformed patrols after the shooting incident, with armed patrols, including the Garda Armed Support Unit, providing additional support. A full investigation by the Garda is underway. The crime scene is being preserved as the Garda Technical Bureau conducts a technical examination. The state pathologist will perform a postmortem examination on the deceased individual at the City Morgue in Whitehall on Tuesday.
Gardaí have appealed to anyone with information, or who may have video footage of the incident, to contact Blanchardstown Garda Station on 01 666 7000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
