Heavy snowfall in southern Germany has caused chaos, with Munich airport suspending flights until 6am on Sunday and over 760 flights affected. Train traffic has also been disrupted, with the main Munich station unable to be served. A football match between Bayern Munich and Union Berlin has been postponed, and residents have been advised to stay home for their safety.
According to Deutsche Bahn (DB), numerous train routes around the Bavarian capital of Munich had to be closed during the night to Saturday. It is expected that the disruptions will continue until Monday. The heavy snowfall is also posing challenges for rescue services and aid organizations in southern Bavaria, with the Bavarian Red Cross (BRK) and the Technical Relief Agency (THW) assisting in evacuating trains and providing assistance to occupants of stranded vehicles on highways.
Thousands of households in the Bayernwerk network area are affected due to toppled trees, and service teams have been deployed since the night to repair damage to power lines and restore electricity supply. Operations at Munich Airport are suspended until Sunday morning at 6 am, and passengers were asked not to travel to the airport.
The heavy snowfall has also led to the cancellation of the Bundesliga match between Bayern Munich and 1. FC Union, scheduled for Saturday at 3:30 pm. Safety risks and the traffic situation made cancellation unavoidable, according to Bayern Munich. The rescheduling of the match is yet to be determined.

During the night to Sunday, severe frost with minimum temperatures between minus 10 and minus 15 degrees Celsius is expected, especially in Schleswig-Holstein and the southwestern mountainous regions.
