As the conflict between Israel and Hamas continues to escalate, Israeli civilians and soldiers are being held hostage in Gaza. According to the Israeli Defense Forces, over 2,000 rockets have been fired from Gaza towards Israel, with Hamas gunmen infiltrating Israeli towns. The death toll in Israel is at least 100, with hundreds injured, while in the Gaza Strip, 198 Palestinians have been killed and over 1,600 injured.

The United Nations peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon has increased its presence near the Israeli border, and the International Committee of the Red Cross has expressed concern about the intensification of violence. According to Major General Hageri, “There are numerous breaches in the fence, we are managing the fighting in 22 focal points. There are casualties – including casualties among IDF soldiers, when we have all the numbers we will provide them.”

The IDF has mobilized the tactical brigade, Home Front Command, and all forces to close off the entire southern region in terms of forces and barriers. Police have set up roadblocks on Route 4 heading north, in the Yavne area, out of concern that terrorists who infiltrated from the Gaza Strip have managed to reach the center of the country.

The EU Ambassador to Israel, Dimitris Tzantchev, referred to the surprise combined attack launched by Hamas this morning, saying, “We are concerned about the deadly rocket attacks and indiscriminate infiltrations from Gaza against civilians in Israel.” The head of Hamas’ military wing, Mohammed Deif, also referred to the combined attack launched by Hamas this morning, saying, “We warned the enemy.”

The training units of a series of settlements in the Gaza Strip are engaging in firefights within the settlements with terrorists who infiltrated from the Gaza Strip. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the citizens of the country and said, “We are at war – not an operation.”

Magen David Adom’s blood services are facing a severe shortage of blood units of all blood types, especially type O units for life-saving treatment. This is how you can help.

The IDF has proven in the past that it knows how to deal with any war and emerge victorious. The same goes for now. The IDF will examine itself later, but for now, we are at war. All Israeli citizens must stay near protected areas and listen to the instructions of the Home Front Command. The IDF has initiated a wide-scale reserve recruitment; we will recruit up to hundreds of thousands. Anyone who attacks us, whether from the northern arena or any other area, will pay a very heavy price. Our focus is on the Gaza envelope, and we will reach a resolution in the coming hours.”
