“Article_text”: “Leaders of the G20 group of nations paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on Sunday at the memorial site in New Delhi, India, as part of the G20 Summit. US President Joe Biden, who attended the summit, praised the partnership between India and the United States, stating that it was based on Mahatma Gandhi’s principles of trusteeship. President Biden shared a picture of himself and other G20 leaders paying homage to Mahatma Gandhi at the memorial site.

The G20 Summit, chaired by India, was attended by leaders from the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, the European Union, France, Italy, Germany, and other countries. All the leaders were welcomed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with a khadi gift. They all paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at the memorial site, with some walking barefoot as a sign of respect.

The second day of the summit saw the addition of the African Union as a member and agreements on various issues. India also unveiled a plan to build a rail and shipping corridor linking it with the Middle East and Europe.

The Aaj Tak newspaper reported that President Biden stated that this year’s G20 Summit demonstrated that the G20 group can still find solutions to its most important issues. The US President also mentioned that, as he always does, he emphasized the importance of human rights and the role of civil society and a free press in building a strong and prosperous nation.

The ETV Bharat Delhi newspaper reported that Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed foreign guests at Rajghat. Deputy Prime Minister of Oman, Asad bin Tariq bin Taimur Al Said, and Prime Ministers of Bangladesh, the Netherlands, Mauritius, Singapore, and other countries paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at the memorial site.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, President of the Asian Development Bank Masatsugu Asakawa, Director-General of the World Health Organization Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, President of the World Bank, Ajay Banga, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, Kristalina Georgieva, and other representatives also visited Rajghat to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi.

The G20 Summit concluded with the Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva taking over the G20 rotating presidency. The summit saw the addition of the African Union as a member and agreements on various issues.
